Poltavchenko opens exhibition for the 50th anniversary of the film “Hamlet” at “Lenfilm”

The exhibition “50 years of Hamlet” opened at “Lenfilm Studios” on Dec. 1. The governor of St. Petersburg, Georgiy Poltavchenko, participated in the opening ceremony.

The exposition included  pieces of scenery, historical costumes, 60s-era film technologies, photographs, manuscripts, journals, letters and versions of the script for director Grigoriy Kozintsev's film.

Georgiy Poltavchenko underlined the fact that “Lenfilm” is the oldest state film studio, where Soviet and Russian film history was made. He noted that Grigoriy Kozintsev's film holds many Russian and international awards and is still considered the best film adaption of Shakespeare's Hamlet.

This exhibition will become part of the Cinema Museum that “Lenfilm” is currently creating. Georgiy Poltavchenko gave his assurance that the city will actively support this project. “With the rich history, traditions, and wonderful people who have worked and do work here, 'Lenfilm' is worthy of creating this museum,” the governor said. “

And in this, the interests of the studio and the city completely coincide.”
