“Aiyy Wal,” a film by Yakut director Eduard Novikov

The film, based on real events, is a heartfelt story about the life and creativity of the young Yakut singer Aleksandr Samsonov - Aiyy Wal. The audience watched the story of his boyhood years, through the development of his talent, and his establishment as a true folk singer. This is a story about how big dreams are able to lead a person through life and that the desire to create and to make people happy can withstand even the most tragic and severe events. The bright and lyrical songs of Aiyy Wal, which not only encouraged and supported people in the difficult times of the 1990s, are examples of true, living music. The filmmakers managed to combine the generations in order to show the power of the hero’s spirit and his desire to live.

After the premier of the film, a press conference was held. Marianna Skribikina – who came up with the idea for the film, the starring actor Gabril Menyakov, the second director, film editor Konstantin Danilov, and screenwriter Maria Nakhodkina all answered questions from the audience and film critics. The Yakut people who came to the premiere were proud of the hero and all were intrigued by the film’s plot.
